Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher serves as a temporary classroom instructor in the absence of the regular teacher. This position is responsible for delivering lesson plans, maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students throughout the school day. The Substitute Teacher supports the mission of the school by fostering an atmosphere that promotes academic growth, respect, and Christian values. This is a part-time, as-needed position.

Job Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular classroom teacher.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment that supports student success.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
• Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations.
• Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
• Provide instruction, answer student questions, and assist students with assigned classroom work.
• Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, or other assigned duties as directed.
• Adapt to varying grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school information.
• Communicate any significant student concerns, disciplinary issues, or incidents to the school administration.
• Prepare an end-of-day report for the regular teacher detailing lessons completed, student progress, attendance, and any notable classroom events.
• Follow all school policies and diocesan Safe Environment and child protection requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
• Valid substitute teaching certification or eligibility, if required by state or diocesan regulations.
• Previous experience working with children in a classroom, educational, or youth setting preferred.
• Ability to effectively manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to work with a variety of grade levels and instructional settings.
• Supportive of the mission, philosophy, and values of Catholic education.
