Locomotive Shop Mechanic

Minooka, IL

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Locomotive Shop Mechanic for a well-established company in Minooka, IL. This is a great opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy hands-on work rebuilding and repairing locomotive components in a shop environment.

No Fridays! Enjoy a consistent Monday through Thursday schedule and a three-day weekend every week.

Schedule

• Monday - Thursday
• 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
• No Friday shifts

Pay

• $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
• Higher starting pay may be available for highly experienced candidates

What You'll Do

• Inspect, maintain, and repair locomotives, air compressors, road maintenance equipment, and shop mechanical systems.
• Tear down, rebuild, and overhaul air compressors and locomotive components.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs as needed.
• Remove, repair, replace, assemble, and adjust mechanical and electrical components.
• Use meters and diagnostic equipment to identify trouble areas.
• Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication work as required.
• Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to inspect parts and verify tolerances.
• Maintain batteries and electrical components on locomotives and related equipment.
• Operate forklifts and other shop equipment safely.
• Communicate inspection findings and repair recommendations to supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Trade school training or formal diesel, locomotive, or mechanical maintenance training preferred.
• Minimum 2.5 years of mechanical experience preferred.
• Experience rebuilding air compressors, engines, or heavy equipment components is a plus.
• Ability to read and use measuring instruments including calipers and micrometers.
• Welding experience is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
