Primary Purpose :
To provide the student an opportunity to achieve and enhance his/her self-esteem in order to maximize his/her social, personal, and academic development.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: - Minimum of a master's degree.
- A valid school counseling certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Preferred Experience: - At least two years of teaching experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: - Develop the counseling program in relation to the needs of the student/school being served.
- Provide crisis counseling.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Provide referrals to appropriate agencies.
- Work with students on an individual basis to increase personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Work with children in small groups to target similar problems/interests.
- Provide information concerning developmental guidance to enhance students' optimum growth.
- Confer with parents/staff when necessary.
- Participate in Admissions, Reviews, and Dismissals (ARDs) as needed.
- Coordinate and interpret results of standardized tests to students, parents, and professional staff.
- Transfer information to appropriate sources through professional growth
- Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee.
